Wind river landscaping

Wind river landscaping is a great way to keep weeds out of your garden and a beautiful addition to your outdoor area. One of the benefits of using these options, however, is that they also help to keep the air around your home clean by reducing the volume of airborne dust. Here are a few ideas on how to install some native plants in your yard.

Cedars and Junipers:

This family of plants native to western North America is a great option to utilize as a windbreak. You can plant them in a row, in a circle, or, even better, in your landscape’s center to surround your home and provide wind protection, without taking up much space. They also look nice and help to add to the charm of your property. Many of these species have multiple trunks which allow them to grow to a height of 25 feet and even taller. Cedar trees do require a lot of maintenance however and should be installed correctly.

Alpine Pennywort:

This grass is a native wildflower that has spread throughout the United States in the eastern mountains. It is a low growing perennial that is often found in rocky areas and other difficult soil conditions. It is a member of the buttercup family and is a member of the mint family. Alpine Pennywort has small white flowers with a mint flavor and grows to be about 4 inches tall. This species is easily propagated from seed.

Bluegrass:

This perennial grass is native to the Central United States. It is found growing in fields, prairies and even along streams and roadways. It is a short growing grass that is highly adaptable. This grass can handle a wide variety of soils but does best in moist areas. Bluegrass grows to be about 4 feet tall and has blue-green leaves and white to blue-purple flowers. This is a highly sought-after species for landscaping because it is a great addition to any garden.
