What could be more comfortable than a warm family circle, when after a working day everyone dines at the same table or tea on a weekend, and even outdoors? What can be a carefree friendly party with wine under a barbecue in the back of the cottage, under the dense crowns of trees? Where can you be alone with yourself, relax in solitude and enjoy the silence? Nothing will create so many scenarios for relaxation as a garden gazebo, the very name of which contains the most joyful moments of life - conversations - communication with family and friends, unity with nature. Spending time in a place lovingly built with your own hands will be especially pleasant.
The construction of a gazebo is a completely accessible task for those who know how to tinker a little and are ready to show creativity and imagination. Initially, choose a suitable building site and prepare the building site. After going through the somewhat painstaking stage of laying the foundation, think over the structure of the frame, based on the idea of arranging the structure and the selected material for its implementation. Erect walls if you want the structure to be more enclosed, or build low fences if you want an airy structure.
The final stage of construction is the formation of the roof, for which you can use a wide range of materials - from bituminous tiles and polycarbonate, to reeds and wooden shingles. And the last - the interior decoration stylistically should overlap with the architectural solution, for which it is better to use materials of natural origin present in the wall decoration. So where to start self-construction?
Depending on the purpose for which the gazebo is being built - for secluded relaxation or for a noisy feast, family tea or candlelight dinners, this building is either erected in close proximity to the main house, or "hides" in a remote corner of the garden.
It is very important that such a small architectural form organically fit into the landscape of the garden area and support the style solution of the main house. This is especially important if a place is chosen for the structure in an open area, close enough to the main building. A gazebo, lost in the depths of the garden, can exist without being tied to the house - here it is only important that it be in harmony with the natural environment - trees, shrubs, ponds and lawns.
And, of course, make sure that a nice looking view opens up from the building - it can be a pond, a flower bed, a group of trees, a view into the depths of a forest or meadow adjacent to your site.
A gazebo made of stone with a reed roof seemed to have always stood in this place, organically merging with the pine forest
A colorful gazebo in the form of a pergola made of grapevine and roots blends perfectly with a slightly abandoned garden, located in the middle of a green lawn
If the gazebo, located in the middle of the garden, is naturally protected from the sun, precipitation and wind, then another version of it, located in an open place of the personal plot, requires a more thoughtful approach. Here you need to take care that there is a fence, a wall of a house or a planting in the form of a bush on the leeward side, and paths are laid to the structure itself and nothing prevents you from freely penetrating there.
Despite the abundance of original solutions for arranging a gazebo in a country house or a land plot adjacent to a private house, the construction of a foundation-base for such a building is the most important point.
Columnar foundation - the most optimal option for the base for the gazebo, which does not require leveling the site and labor-intensive earthworks
For such small buildings, simplified types of foundations are used, easily erected on their own - tape, columnar, pile, less often - monolithic.
The simplest frame design is made of a wooden bar
The frame can be made of wooden beams, metal profiles or reinforcement. The main condition for the configuration of the gazebo is its openness, airiness, combination with the natural environment, that is, the walls should not be completely deaf, lined with brick or stone. Unless you are going to have a barbecue in it, then this option will be better.

The easiest way is to cover the gazebo with shingles, as shown in this video example:
Also, the technologies for the construction of a gable roof are very well described - here, and a gable roof - here.
You may be interested in how to build a gazebo from the most simple materials literally lying under your feet. Take a closer look at ordinary plastic bottles, which, it would seem, cannot be used anywhere, but it is also a pity to throw it away - all the time it seems that they will come in handy somewhere. You can easily use plastic bottles as a building material, and you can easily build a structure yourself.
Here, of course, one cannot do without the mandatory stages of arranging the foundation, frame and roof, which will require both financial and labor costs. The walls of such a gazebo, made of plastic bottles, will not only cost free, but also serve as a good option for protection from the sun and precipitation.
The contrasting combination of transparent and brown plastic bottles emphasizes the unusualness of the colorful country-style gazebo
It will simplify the construction task by creating a foundation from ready-made metal screw piles, which you can screw into the ground on your own, equipping the base under the gazebo literally within one day. The frame will be easiest to make from a metal profile - a corner, a square or a pipe, by welding the structural elements using a welding machine.
Plastic bottles are strung on metal rods, which are then placed between the lower and upper frame of the frame. An important condition for the formation of a harmonious structure is the selection of bottles of the same shape and size, while the color can be varied - this will give the gazebo a unique flavor.

In addition to plastic bottles, glass containers can be another unconventional building material, which can be purchased for almost nothing at recycling points.
Art Nouveau garden gazebo with fluid forms and an abundance of glass, vividly echoes the famous Gaudí gardens
So, we are building a gazebo from glass bottles. The principle of erecting a building is the same as that of a brick - bottles are stacked in rows, which are fastened together with cement mortar.
Throwing out your imagination, combining glass bottles of various shapes and colors, you can build an unusual gazebo both outside and inside.
The bottles are placed with their bottoms outward, and with their necks inside the structure. Considering that the bottles are difficult to dock at the corners of the building, they can be used to lay out separate fragments of the walls, giving the structure an unusual sound - iridescent glass surfaces will sparkle in the sun like a crystal.
Another unusual idea is the construction of a gazebo in the form of a geodesic dome. Read about it: https://diz-cafe.com/postroiki/geodezicheskij-kupol-svoimi-rukami.html#i-9
An interesting and fairly economical option for a summer cottage can be a construction using trunks and branches of old trees.
There are always trees in the garden that have outlived their days, which have already ceased to bear fruit and require sawing. Removing logs is often difficult and costly, but take your time to get rid of fruit wood - it has beautiful trunk curves and texture, making it an excellent building material.
The trunk and branches can be cleaned of bark, which in a crushed form is also useful on the farm - it can be sprinkled with bushes of plants prone to freezing in winter. The tree trunk will be used to create column supports, and large branches - for fences, railings and balusters. Most likely, one tree will not be enough, two, or maybe three trunks will be needed to form four columns with a height of 2.5 m.
The twisted trunks of old trees with knots and an untreated surface, used to build a gazebo, give it the appearance of a forest hut
For the construction of this colorful gazebo, not only the tree trunk was used, but also the hemp used to create the columnar foundation
Wooden columns are fixed at the corner points of the columnar foundation and fixed with the lower and upper strapping made of timber. It is advisable to treat old wood with moisture-resistant primers, and also to open it with varnish to give the desired color and protect it from further drying out. A logical continuation of the style solution of the forest “hut on chicken legs” will be a roof made of plant materials - shingles or reed mats.
An unusual solution for a garden can be the construction of a gazebo using ordinary cement mortar. The most difficult thing in this version of the arrangement is the creation of a rigid frame from reinforcement, mesh-netting or ready-made reinforcing structures that must be bent and welded. At the stage of preparing the frame, you can contact specialized specialists, and then give free rein to imagination.
An unusual tent-roofed gazebo made of stone and cement mortar resembles a bizarre piece of rock that organically fits into a forest landscape
Having prepared the solution closer to the thick one, you need to gradually, in small portions, throw it on the reinforcing structure, and after drying, form the bizarre shapes of the columns and walls of the gazebo. With the help of the solution, you can imitate the trunks of intertwined trees, lianas, fantastic plant forms, creating the image of an exotic plant, as if invented by nature itself.
On hot summer days, a gazebo in the back of the garden near a murmuring waterfall will give you the long-awaited coolness and privacy
Such a design can take on fantastic unearthly shapes, resembling a spaceship, if you use metal parts or fragmentarily expose the reinforcement cage. In this case, the roof should be made of metal or plastic - corrugated board or transparent polycarbonate will do.
Garden structures made of reeds, reeds, vines will be a wonderful decoration for a pond, lake or an artificial swamp on your site.
A great solution for a gazebo is the use of natural materials such as reeds and vines
From these plant materials, both walls in the form of weaving from a vine can be made, and a roof, which is a plane folded from ready-made reed or reed mats. Such a building will naturally merge with the natural environment, especially with water, because reeds and reeds are the traditional inhabitants of this environment.
A gazebo on the shore of a reservoir with a reed roof - an example of the harmonious combination of landscape design with the environment
The use of such plants with a hollow stem for construction is the key to a comfortable microclimate in the gazebo - balanced humidity, protection from heat and effective ventilation.
Taking a look at your garden plot, you may be asking yourself how to make a gazebo without introducing any other elements into the garden landscape, except for vegetation. The most affordable, but at the same time, the most time-consuming solution would be to create a structure only with the help of plants - trees or shrubs.
Specially shaped and trimmed tree crowns create original roofs for garden pavilions
Such an interesting design does not require complex construction preparation in the form of a foundation, frame and roof, since it consists only of specially grown breeds of dwarf, undersized or weeping tree-like plants. Various types of willow, mountain ash, willow are planted, most often, in a circle. The trunks and crowns of such plants are formed and directed, as they grow, in the right direction - to the center, creating the vegetable roof of the gazebo.

The openwork frames of the gazebos in combination with climbing plants give the garden landscapes completeness and harmony.
Such a gazebo will naturally fit into the landscape design of the site and will be a shady place to relax on the sunny open lawn in front of the house. The only thing is, the creation of such a plant composition will require a lot of patience and time. A simpler version of a "living" structure can be the planting of climbing plants - grapes, ivy, roses along the outer perimeter of its frame, formed from a wooden bar, a metal profile or farms. In this case, it is important to achieve complete concealment of the structure in the thickets so that the impression of its absence is created.
"Clusters" of balloons imitating grapes can become a bright accent that adorned the garden gazebo on a solemn day.
An extraordinary solution is the use of euro-pallets made of wood for decorating the walls. Such wooden pallets, painted in bright colors, will not only create an original flavor, but also become a good solution for the walls - environmentally friendly, contributing to good air access to the interior of the gazebo.

First of all, the designers tried to visually separate the future resting place from the adjacent territory. To do this, on the patch in front of the house, they replaced the small paving stones with large slabs of the same gray color - in this form, they harmoniously complement each other. Further, instead of iron railings above the steps leading to the basement, the designers erected a low brick wall with a wooden flooring, which, if desired, can be used as a bench: it turned out to be a functional element. The terrace was fenced off from the side opposite to the house with a similar bench-wall, only of an angular shape. Since here the owners of the site are not covered by either a wall or a screen, it was decided to plant resinous liquidambar. It performs a double function: it "protects" the rest from prying eyes and in summer shades the resting place. By the way, in autumn the tree also adorns the terrace with brightly colored foliage.
The corner between the wall of the house and the steps to the basement did not go unnoticed either. Here, the designers squeezed in a water feature and erected a raised flower garden. True, the plants in the planting are under a canopy, so drip irrigation is provided for irrigation. Both the pond and the walls of the flower garden are designed in gray - to match the floor tiles.
For a harmonious appearance of the entire terrace, the plants are color coordinated with the light yellow wall of the house. Orange and yellow tones in plantings are set by variegated heuchera, gravilat, and also Cambrian meconopsis. To avoid monotony, they are diluted from April to September with contrasting purple lungwort, aquilegia and geranium. The latter deserves special attention: the Orion plant blooms from June to September. Well, they balance the bright yellow-violet gamut of foxglove and ochica with white flowers.
A small pond under a glass canopy serves as a source of coolness in the heat, and the quiet murmur of jets soothes the nerves at the end of working days. To the right of it, in a raised flower garden, grow ozhika and clematis in a pot. On the left, in a square flower garden, the lungwort, gravilat and foxglove are comfortably located. They bloom alternately from May to June.

We present a rectangular structure measuring 2.2 x 3 m, assembled from boards using only two tools - a screwdriver and an electric jigsaw. To build a gazebo made of wood, shown in the diagram, you will need:
The idea of this building is to apply the method of fast construction of frame houses, when all the walls are assembled on the ground, and then put in a vertical position and connected to each other. Due to this, you can make a gazebo in literally one day, which is shown in the video at the end of the section. Next, we will consider the implementation of work in stages, starting with the construction of the foundation.
Before you build a simple garden gazebo for a summer residence, you need to clear the area, remove all interfering objects from it and level the ground. Since the structure is very light, the settlement of the soil under its weight will be minimal. Here, the columnar foundation will rather serve as an anchor so that the structure does not budge from strong gusts of wind.
Note. The video below shows that the master does not make the foundation for his structure at all, but only lays concrete tiles.
Cinder block base scheme
For the installation of a columnar foundation, use the following step-by-step instructions:
For the subsequent fastening of the wooden frame, iron rods are vertically inserted inside the posts. There is another way - installation of beams on anchor bolts. A base of this type is also suitable for building a pavilion on an iron frame welded from round and shaped pipes.
An important point. If you plan to lay out a brick oven inside the gazebo, then a separate foundation is needed for it. How to build it correctly is described in our other article.
In short, your task is to twist 2 end walls, set them upright and connect them with beams. Step by step it looks like this:
Advice. It is not necessary to repeat the inclined structure of the walls, as the master does in the photo. For simplicity, make gables with upright posts, and then proceed in the same order.
Do not forget to soak all the wood with an antiseptic compound and let it dry before assembling the frame. This operation is mandatory if you want to extend the life of the structure. Priming and painting will be done at the end of the construction.
In this design, the floors are laid very simply: boards must be laid on 3 existing logs, aligned along one edge. Then screw them to the logs with self-tapping screws and cut off the ends sticking out on the other side. Leave a gap of about 1 mm between the floorboards so that they do not rub against each other and do not creak.
Advice. Before laying the floors, attach vertical posts to the central log, they will serve as supports for future benches.
When the floors are ready, it is worth making stationary benches from the same planks along the side walls. To do this, you need to install short racks in the corners (the middle one is already there) and connect them with crossbeams. The role of the backs will be played by the horizontal jumpers mounted earlier.
To design the resulting gazebo, you can give full free rein to your imagination. Instead of an unsightly ondulin, you can put reed mats on the roof, and decorate the side openings with decorative gratings. It does not hurt to bring lighting inside the arbor and paint it in the desired color or cover the wood with several layers of varnish.
In this project, the designers focused on color. We relied on a warm range, which is especially conducive to relaxation. The garage wall and concrete fence were painted red-brown. The old wooden screens on the border of the site did not fit into the project, so they were removed. At the same time, the atmosphere of privacy was preserved - the role of the partition was taken over by a high hedge from the side of the neighbors.
In the flower garden in June, the first to see white bells, yellow-leaved dicentra, red-brown geranium, red-leaved heuchera and pink astilba. Towards the middle of summer, the 'Annabelle' hydrangea joins them.
The basis of the resting place is a corner wooden platform between the garage and the concrete fence. For its arrangement, the designers chose light furniture - it effectively sets off the dark red prevailing in the project.
The leisure corner is shaded by a wooden pergola entwined with Henry's honeysuckle with fragrant flowers. Important: the liana is not able to climb up the smooth supports of the pergola, therefore it is necessary to pull the wire for it.
A warm brick-orange tone in the garden is also set by a narrow winding path of clinker and plants in the flower garden - heuchera with dark leaves, red-brown geranium with burgundy flowers. At the beginning of summer, white ground cover bells play the role of contrasts in the red-brown flower garden, and later - the undersized white aster shrub.
"One floor" higher in July, flaunt snow-white large inflorescences of hydrangeas.
Well, light pink astilbe and clematis serve as ideal intermediaries between contrasting white and red partners. The territory free from the flower garden is occupied by an emerald lawn.
